Abstract

Inflation in Latin American countries has followed different trajectories shaped by episodes of crisis, institutional changes, and varying monetary frameworks. The objective of this study was to analyze the dynamics and heterogeneity of inflation in 17 Latin American countries during the 2000–2024 period. A quantitative, non-experimental, descriptive, historical, and comparative approach was applied using the World Bank’s annual observations for 425 countries. The mean, median, standard deviation, extreme values, and frequency of deflation and double-digit inflation were calculated, along with comparisons across the five historical periods. The results showed persistent differences among countries, with a narrower gap between 2010 and 2019 and a resurgence of inflation in 2022–2024, followed by moderation. It is concluded that regional inflation should not be interpreted solely through average indicators, given the influence of diverse extreme values and national trajectories.
