Abstract

This research aimed to design and develop a mobile application for emotional regulation and management in adult women survivors of gender-based violence in Cuenca, Ecuador, with the support of therapists during its use. A mixed-method approach (qualitative and quantitative) was applied, using techniques such as UserCentered Design, which enabled the identification of real emotional needs, the creation of accessible solutions, and the validation of the app’s usability by both professional and final users. Nuna Warmi was created as a safe place conceived from and for women, acknowledging their stories, needs and emotions. The app seeks to represent this population through an empathic perspective and offers a tool that overcomes economic, geographic and social barriers, addressing the limitations many women face in the Ecuadorian context when accessing continuous therapeutic resources. This project fulfilled its stated objectives by implementing emotional regulation techniques such as emotion recognition, guided breathing and meditation. These tools were developed to be interactive, tailored to user needs, and validated through pilot testing. In the field of multimedia design, Nuna Warmi demonstrated the value of embedding social and psychological awareness into the development process from the beginning. The app proves to be a relevant and impactful tool to complement therapeutic care, while also highlighting areas for future improvements such as content personalization and peer-to-peer interaction.
