Abstract

Introduction: The incorporation of artificial intelligence in higher education has led to significant transformations in teaching and learning processes, especially in the health sciences, where its use presents pedagogical opportunities and ethical challenges in professional training. Objective: To analyze teachers' perceptions of the ethical and academic impact of artificial intelligence on teaching in the health sciences at the Catholic University of Cuenca, Azogues campus, during the 2026 period. Methodology: A quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional, and descriptive study was conducted with 101 teachers from the Medicine, Nursing, and Dentistry programs. The Teachers' Perception Scale Regarding Artificial Intelligence Use in Education (TPS-AI) was applied. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and nonparametric tests. Results: Teachers showed moderately positive perceptions of AI in teaching (M=3.52) and learning (M=3.45), while the ethical dimension received the highest rating (M=4.17). No significant differences were found according to sociodemographic variables. Conclusions: Artificial intelligence is perceived as a pedagogical tool with educational potential, although its implementation requires ethical guidelines and teacher training for its responsible use
