Policy on Originality, Plagiarism, Self-Plagiarism, and Parallel Submission

The Revista Multidisciplinaria Investigación Contemporánea adopts the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) to ensure transparency, scientific integrity, and good editorial practices.

Manuscript Originality

Authors must declare that:

• They hold the moral rights to the work.

• The manuscript has not been submitted simultaneously to another journal.

• It has not been published, in whole or in part, in any national or international medium.

• If the content originates from a conference or a preprint repository, this must be clearly stated upon submission.

Revised versions of previously published works must explicitly identify their updates, innovations, and original contributions.

Prohibition of Plagiarism and Self-Plagiarism

The following are considered serious ethical violations:

• Plagiarism: substantial copying of texts, ideas, or data from third parties without proper citation.

• Self-plagiarism: unjustified reuse of one’s own previously published text without clear reference or meaningful novelty.

Authors must guarantee that the manuscript’s content is original, accurate, and not manipulated.

Similarity Detection

The journal uses TURNITIN to verify textual similarity.
Manuscripts with a similarity index of ≤12% are considered original.
If the similarity threshold is exceeded, the manuscript will be rejected and removed from the OJS system.

In cases of plagiarism or self-plagiarism, the authors—and, when appropriate, their institutions—will be notified.

Prohibition of Parallel Submission

Submitting the same manuscript, in whole or in part, to other publications during the editorial process is strictly prohibited.
If such misconduct is detected, the Editorial Direction may contact the other journal involved.

Good Practices

To avoid plagiarism:

• Cite all sources used.

• Acknowledge the origin of ideas, data, and referenced materials.

• Respect applicable intellectual property regulations.

To avoid self-plagiarism:

• Inform the Editorial Committee if the manuscript stems from a previous project or research line.

• Emphasize the manuscript’s original and unpublished nature.

• Cite the author’s own previous work when relevant.

To avoid parallel submission:

• Carefully choose the journal where the manuscript will be submitted.

• If wishing to withdraw a manuscript, inform the Editorial Committee in writing before submitting it to another publication.
