Abstract

This essay analyzes teaching conceptions in higher education and their relationship with the persistence of so-called “edumyths” or neuromyths, understood as misconceptions derived from misinterpretations of scientific findings about the brain and learning. Through a theoretical review, it is shown that these beliefs significantly influence the planning, implementation, and evaluation of educational processes, limiting the adoption of evidence-based pedagogical practices. The study also examines the prevalence of these myths in Latin American and Ecuadorian contexts, highlighting their impact on educational quality. Finally, it emphasizes the need to strengthen scientific literacy in teacher education and to promote evidence-based teaching strategies in order to foster more effective, critical, and contextualized learning processes.
