Enfermedad de Legg – Perthes – Calvé u Osteocondritis Deformante Juvenil, a propósito de un caso

Abstract

Juvenile osteochondritis deformans (also known as Legg–Perthes–Calvé disease) is a disorder that affects the development of the hip. Its exact cause is unknown, although several associated factors have been identified, including synovitis, coagulation abnormalities (such as thrombophilia), short stature, delayed bone maturation, repeated trauma, corticosteroid use, and unfavorable socioeconomic conditions, among others.

In terms of epidemiology, this condition affects between 1.0 and 2.5 per 10,000 children, with a higher prevalence in boys than in girls.

The initial manifestations typically include pain in the hip, groin, thigh, or knee, which radiates along the path of the obturator nerve and is accompanied by a limp of varying severity. The diagnosis is based on conventional radiographs in anteroposterior and lateral (Lauenstein position) projections, which allow visualization of the early characteristic bony changes of the disease. Treatment depends on the severity of the condition, ranging from rest to osteotomies.
